Looking to protect your cognitive abilities into old age? Stay active!

The Northern Manhattan Study team at Columbia University has found a link between physical activity and prevention of cognitive declines as we age. Older adults who maintained a moderate to high level of physical activity over 5 years were compared to those who engaged on low or no physical activity. Those in the no/low physical activity group saw greater declines in memory and processing speed over 5 years than those in the moderate/high group.

Moral of the story: Get active and stay active! It’s good for your body and your mind!
